Born in 1975 in Fougères (35), Gildas Java studied applied arts in Rennes and at the Beaux-Arts de Lorient. Following his academic training, he worked for various communications agencies in the Paris region. 2007 marked his return to Brittany and his settlement in Brest.
As an illustrator, he cut his teeth at Déméter publishing, for which he drew the series La II e rédemption , then with Alexandre. L'Épopée at Glénat. In addition to albums, he also collaborated within the collective "Brest en bulle" for Le Télégramme publishing. This collaboration continued through the magazine Casier[s] for six years. In 2024, he published La fortune de Poutine with Yvonnick Denoël, intelligence specialist, at Nouveau Monde publishing.
Currently, he is involved in numerous Brest and Breton projects: urban frescoes, illustrations for music albums ( Symphonie bretonne by Didier Squiban, À la vie à l'amer by the group Brind'Zinc), drawn concerts, the musical show Habités and even label visuals for a brewery.
An artist committed to his region, in partnership with the Brittany region, he participates in the 360 Possible events and the Brittany 2040 prospective program. He created the poster for the Brest Maritime Festival 2020 and that of 2024.
With Éditions Daviken, he participated in 2021 in the collection Méfie-toi d'une femme qui lit , with the graphic novel " Elizabeth: advance anyway" . Then together, in 2022, they published Sur des airs de Java , a collection which brings together 8 stories from [C]asiers and 3 unpublished ones. This work will give rise to two exhibitions, one in Champagne-Mouton (16) with digigraphic prints of all the plates without text and the other in Tours at Café Concept with a selection of his digigraphies, originals and exclusive prints.
