Long Kesh, the ballad of Bobby Sands: a poignant and immersive tale

In September 1977, in Northern Ireland, Bobby Sands, an IRA activist, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for illegally carrying a weapon. He was incarcerated in the Maze prison, better known as Long Kesh. Thus began a struggle for rights and dignity that would lead him to a dramatic 66-day hunger strike... Facing him were Margaret Thatcher and the Long Kesh guards. Bobby Sands died 40 years ago on May 5, 1981.

Stéphane Heurteau researched and spoke with fellow inmates (including Sam Millar) and members of Bobby Sands' family. The result: a black-and-white report to reinforce the immersive and dramatic dimension of the story.
